There are some new developments in the story of Annette.
Annette is a rare 1961 Slough-built Citroen DS19. You see her here, as I found her, in a barn in Yorkshire.
Many people write about the technical quality and innovation of the DS, but few praise the poetry and class of the model. To me, that's rather like judging music solely by the playing of the musicians. Its important, but only one part of the whole.
Why the name? Well, despite the large size of the DS, it moves with such grace and elegance that it draws attention - and anything which turns my head like that must be female! In French, of course, the letters DS say "Goddess", confirming the matter. But why "Annette" in particular? Its not that I've ever met a light blue woman with the name who sported frog's eyes and hydraulic suspension - the car just says it to me.
The car has now been moved south, for rebuilding by Dr. Chevron.
In school, I was taught horror stories of pit donkeys being kept underground all their lives. Bringing the car out into the sunshine felt akin to liberating those animals from the mines - although I do hope Annette doesn't turn out to have a mule-like stubbornness.
And now she awaits restoration...
These pages will grow as her story develops.
Dr. Chevron is a UK specialist in the DS and other older Citroens. He has much knowledge, many spares, and can be contacted on 01353 722101.
