Exercises From A Cley Weekend
1. Riddle
We once stood like like the upright tales of lions,
but now we lie, flat and resistant,
a woven galaxy, bearing excitement.
2. My Appreciation Of Schoenberg
There once was a Brylcreem Salesman
too crude to sell used cars
who won the right, in an unfair fight,
to direct his own self-portrait
with violins brushing grease
in button-pushing music.
3.
His mother was a martyr,
of that, she was convinced.
4. The Family Photo Album
The son graduates from High School.
The dog, crouched for play, grins directly into the camera.
The cat chases string.
The daughter, preparing for an evening's work, turns on the red light.
